Dr Bernice grew up in the beautiful Overberg and Boland, and as a child would forever be carrying home every strange creature she could find! Not surprisingly she ended up becoming a vet, after first receiving a Research and Genetics degree at the University of Stellenbosch. She completed her veterinary degree at the University of Melbourne, Australia, before heading to sunny Sydney for a few years. There she completed an Internship in Surgery at the Animal Referral Hospital, and worked in general small animal and exotic practice before returning home to the Cape. She has been working exclusively with exotic pets, birds and wildlife since 2014. Her home is filled with two bunnies, a furry dog named Teddy, an assortment of recovering wild animals and one very understanding husband.
Dr Willemien graduated at Onderstpoort in 1997 with a BVSc and BSc (hons) in zoology. She spent a couple of years doing small animal work in the UK before completing an MSc in wild animal health at the university of London and London Zoo. In 2001 she returned to South Africa, first as assistant and later as owner of the Bird and Exotic Animal Clinic in the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic hosital. She left the practice in 2007 to raise her children and moved to the beautiful Western Cape, where she enjoys working with penguins, pet birds, primates and all creatures wild and wonderful.
Sr Brigitte qualified as a Veterinary Nurse from the University of Pretoria in 2007. After acquiring several years of experience in small- and mixed animal veterinary practices, she decided to pursue her interest in exotic patient care by joining the Cape Exotic Animal Hospital at the beginning of 2017. She is the mom of two Meyers Parrots and a cat called Emile.
